About this event

2026 edition of the annual Chamber Music Up North series presents SANGAM, a performance featuring works that are heavily influenced by Indian classical music and features compositions by Juhi Bansal, Asha Srinivasan, Reena Esmail, Nina Shekhar and Shruthi Rajasekar. The word SANGAM derived from Sanskrit and translates to “confluence” referring to a combination of Western and Indian classical music idioms. Audience members will learn about the basic elements of Indian classical music, such as raga and tala, and will be able to experience how these ancient forms are used in contemporary classical music.

The concert will include non-traditional seating and stage set up for the performers and a short Meet&Greet with musicians following the performance. Performers include TCCC Artistic Director cellist Magdalena Sas and guest artists: flutist Paula Gudmundson (Professor of Music at University of Minnesota Duluth and McKnight Fellow), violist Laila Zakzook ( Isaura String Quartet), and double bassist Rolf Erdahl ( Professor of Bass at Gustavus Adolphus College). This activity is made possible in part by a grant from the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council with funds appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature from its General Fund.
